Have you ever heard a voice that wasn’t audible but it was speaking in your mind? You can hear it giving you instructions. Maybe you sensed a strong urgent to go in another direction or say something to someone. Some people have experienced an audible voice speaking to them when no one was around.
We ignore the voice in our mind because the louder voice that yells “I know what’s best for me” over-shadows the quiet speaking voice. Many of us ask the question “how do I know when God is speaking to me?” We desperately want answers to the complex situations we face in life.
Well, the key to getting answers from God is to know Him. A child knows the voice of his parents above all others and trust that voice. A favorite scripture of mine is Hosea 6:3 NLT “Oh, that we might know the LORD! Let us press on to know Him. He will respond to us as surely as the arrival of the dawn or the coming of rains in early spring.” We must do whatever it takes to know Him. Because He responds to his children and leads us to that perfect place in Him, which is in His good and acceptable will.
Several years ago my son was driving down 78 East in New Jersey on a rainy day and he heard a voice say in his mind “put your seat belt on” he was in the habit of driving without it. When the voice spoke he obeyed and less than five minutes later a car ran into the back of his car and it flipped over twice. Because of his obedience his body and life were spared. My friend Diane told me that her prayer is to have a keen ear to hear God’s voice.
What I’m trying to said is this, when God speaks we need to listen and obey. Don’t reason with Him because he is looking out for our good. God is not trapped in time and space like we are, He exist outside of time and knows what is in front of us. When He gives you a nudge, an overwhelming feeling or that quit voice in your mind listen because it is for your good.
