Philippians 3:7-8 But whatever were gains to me I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ. NIV

Recently, during my devotional time, I read Philippians chapter three and began to meditate on verses seven and eight. These verses made me realize that we need to lose the dead things in our lives, as Paul did, to gain something that frees us.

We can awaken from dead places and things to something new. The Lord provides an opportunity to give us a new direction and purpose. We can find ourselves with dead accomplishments and living in or among dead situations that lead to codependency or toxicity in our relationships, families, and jobs. We do not realize we are walking around with dead thoughts and situations relating to things that should be alive to us.

We cannot see that, as parents, we are enabling our adult children. We cannot see that the job is mentally draining and not benefiting us. We cannot see that our decisions are stagnating our goals and business. We cannot see that our friends are not who we think they are. We do not know that we are spending our money on things that have no value and close our eyes to our current and future wealth.

When we are dead to what is around us, our eyes and minds are not open to great possibilities. People who came to an awakening said, “I didn’t know” or “I didn’t see the red flags.” People inside and outside our circle were trying to tell us, but we were dead mentally and emotionally, caught in confusion, and could not see or believe them. We let our feelings deaden the reality of what is visible.

When you are ready to say enough is enough. Prayerfully examine every challenge or situation in your life that you are struggling with and have the courage to confront all actions relating to them. Honestly, admit that you need help and share that with someone you trust or a professional who is only interested in seeing you become your best self. They are ready to help you explore a new trajectory for your life. You must believe you deserve to be in a better situation where YOU WIN!
