In the bible, the phrase “but I have raised you for this very purpose…” can be used when referring to all people. We were all born for a purpose whether our lives lead to righteousness or evil it is for a purpose.
I asked the question, what was different about George Floyd that is making such an impact in our nation and the world? There were other lives taken in a similar manner that we witnessed in the news and social media. He was not an activist, educator, celebrity, or leader. But, this death sparked rage throughout the world.
Yesterday, as I was speaking to my friend Stephanie, I found my answer, and I said to her he was born for such a time as this. I told her to remember what God told Moses regarding Pharaoh in Exodus 9:16 But I have raised you for this very purpose, that I might show you my power and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth. God will use people or situations to change things or uncover what is hidden.
I said, we just came out of being quarantine during the Covid-19 pandemic that affected us economically, socially, physically, politically, and spiritually and all of that could have affected what we saw in the death of George Floyd, and made us ready to act.
Thinking about it further, we had no answers to the questions. How did this happen? What is the solution? Why weren’t we prepared? What many believed from our leaders that we trusted was being challenged, our government nor spiritual leaders had answers. Proverbs 16:4 says “The LORD works out everything to its proper end— even the wicked for a day of disaster.”
God uncovers the hidden things in his appointed time. In all this, He allowed the blinders of naivety to come off for the world to see once again the darkness of racism and oppression. Many from all races and ethnicities are taking action and showing empathy. They are asking the questions and trying to understand why the black family has a certain conversation with their children regarding those who are sworn to protect all of us. The reality of what has happened is being exposed. Maybe now change can happen because those in powerful positions are taking notice of the hidden problem of injustice in high places.
Many of our spiritual leaders are speaking out and telling us to continue to have hope Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. The God I serve and trust is sovereign and He controls all things.
Deuteronomy 3:24 Sovereign Lord, you have begun to show to your servant your greatness and your strong hand. For what god is there in heaven or on earth who can do the deeds and mighty works you do?
