Advice – An opinion that someone offers you about what you should do or how you should act in a particular situation. (Cambridge)
Let’s take inventory on how many times people share their story or situation and we are quick to give an opinion or advice. Before we can determine if they are soliciting advice or not, we give it. It’s natural for people to give advice based on what are common sense solutions or from their personal or professional experience.
Rarely, are people allowed to vent without input, especially if the situation doesn’t make sense. If you are a family member or BFF you don’t need to walk lightly on giving advice because yours is in the best interest of the person and you go into protection mode. In your mind you have an obligation to help them see the whole picture.
Proverbs 12:18 (NIV) The words of the reckless pierce like swords, but the tongue of the wise brings healing. Hasty words of advice can lead to reckless behavior or bad decisions. Weight the advice against the truth or the reality of the situation. Be careful not to let others make you do what they would do. The best thing if possible is to listen, wait, pray and take action. Remember, taking advice can lead to victory or destruction. Be careful!
